It holds snow and ice on the roof so it melts and drains in a controlled way instead of letting go in a sudden, dangerous slide - protecting the people, vehicles and property below. Why snow retention matters
A bare metal roof is engineered to shed snow - which is exactly the problem. When a heavy snowpack finally lets go, it can come down all at once as a roof avalanche, endangering people at entrances and walkways and crushing gutters, downpipes, vehicles and anything at the eave. Snow retention holds the snowpack on the roof so it thaws and drains gradually, in a controlled way, instead of releasing in a single slide.
How S-5! ColorGard works
ColorGard holds the snowpack in place with a continuous crossmember that runs horizontally across the roof, stopping snow and ice from sliding off. The attachment hardware is selected to suit the roof - clamped to the seam on standing-seam roofs, or bracket-mounted and sealed on exposed-fastener roofs - for a weather-tight hold. What makes it ColorGard is the ColorStrip: a strip of your actual roof material that sets into the crossmember, so the guard matches the roof's colour and finish and blends into the roofline.
